Analysis of a film opening

Setting:
The opening scene is set for the majority on the viewing of security cameras. This is an interesting idea used by the directors of the film recording of a recording. The recording is of 4 men entering a building passing security and then entering a lift. The opening scene also introduces all of the films characters and a burglary this sets the scene  for the entire film and gives the audience a taste for the events of he film.

Themes:
The overall theme from Snatch is the overwhelming desire for wealth and unattainable greed. This short clip shows the black trading market that all started with the burglary this is a very effective way of introducing the characters to the audience as if the characters are passing items to each other.

Icons (significant objects)
The diamond is clearly a significant item throughout the clip, we are introduced to the stone and it is clear that the diamond has extensive value and is the catalyst for the greed throughout the film.

Narrative
The discussion is relativly muted during this clip. there is some narration from "Turkish" the main caracter at the beginning of the clip however after this the conversation in the clip is very muted.

Characters
We are introduced to the following characters in this short clip. the clip uses a clever technique to introduce the characters as if they are all together passing in item around. However the characters are all in various places so the scene would of take a lot of planning its a very successful method used by the directors.
Adam Fogerty...Gorgeous George
Stephen Graham...Tommy
Benicio Del Toro...Franky Four Fingers
Dennis Farina...Cousin Avi
Vinnie Jones...Bullet-Tooth Tony
Brad Pitt...Mickey O'Neil
Rade Serbedzija...Boris the Blade (as Rade Sherbedgia)

Alan Ford...Brick Top
Mike Reid...Doug the Head
Robbie Gee...Vinny
Lennie James...Sol

Textual Analysis - camera, editing,sound
The character introduction is played over the track Diamond by Klint the sound is relative to the picture they fit well together. The character introduction requires a lot of editing so that it appears the characters are passing items too each other. There is also a coloured picture of each of the characters allowing you to distinguish the main characters.
